How Often Should I Pressure Wash My House

How Often Should I Pressure Wash My House

For most homes in the Fraser Valley, the exterior should be professionally cleaned about once a year. However, despite the common phrase “pressure washing your house,” high-pressure washing is usually not the right way to clean residential siding. Vinyl siding, painted surfaces, stucco, soffits, and other exterior materials can be damaged by excessive pressure, and a powerful stream of water can force moisture behind siding, into vents, or around windows and doors.

Instead, we recommend soft washing your house using professional cleaning solutions. Soft washing relies on carefully mixed chemicals to kill and remove algae, mildew, mold, dirt, and other organic growth rather than trying to blast everything away with water pressure. Once the cleaning solution has had time to work, the exterior can be rinsed using much lower pressure. This provides a deeper clean while greatly reducing the risk of damaging your home’s exterior.

How often your home needs to be soft washed depends on its surroundings. Homes with heavy tree cover, shaded walls, limited airflow, or frequent moisture may develop green algae and dark organic staining faster than properties exposed to more sunlight. The Fraser Valley’s wet climate makes this especially common. If you begin noticing green growth, mildew, streaking, or significant dirt accumulation, you may need a house wash sooner than the typical yearly schedule.

House washing can also be more dangerous than it looks. Working around slippery surfaces, ladders, second-storey walls, electrical fixtures, concentrated cleaning chemicals, and pressurized equipment creates several opportunities for serious injury or property damage. Using the wrong chemical concentration can discolor or damage surfaces, while applying too much pressure can damage siding, seals, screens, paint, and other exterior components.

That is why we recommend leaving the job to an experienced exterior cleaning company rather than renting a pressure washer and attempting it yourself. Two Clean Bros professionally soft washes homes throughout the Fraser Valley, using the appropriate equipment, cleaning solutions, application methods, and rinsing techniques for each surface.

So, how often should you pressure wash your house? Ideally, you shouldn’t pressure wash the siding at all. Have your home professionally soft washed approximately once per year, or whenever noticeable organic growth begins to develop.

If your house is starting to look green, stained, or weathered, contact Two Clean Bros for a professional house wash in the Fraser Valley. We’ll take care of the chemicals, equipment, heights, and cleaning process so you don’t have to risk damaging your home—or yourself.
